About Me.

Hi, I’m Alan. I’m a Scotsman in my mid 40’s. Married with two teenage kids. In the nineties and noughties I worked as a diplomat in various British High Commissions and Embassies abroad. I have lived all around the world including Ghana, South Africa, Libya, Egypt, Nigeria, USA, Hungary, Botswana, Jamaica, & the Lebanon and hence amassed a fairly interesting photo collection along the way.

How did it all start?

While abroad I stored my photos in my father’s loft, and I would add to them every year. However he had a fire which gutted the house. Fortunately the loft space was untouched and I didn’t lose anything. The first thing I did upon my return was look for a service to archive the photos and camcorder tapes. But there wasn’t one I was remotely satisfied with. There were a few firms I could send the materials off to, but the idea of posting the photos was a non-starter. There was no way I was going to post my most precious possessions to a factory somewhere for them to get muddled up with someone else’s stuff or lost in the post. So I started a service with a more personal touch as bit of a project and found there was an appetite for it. Years down the line I am busier than ever and have refined the service a great deal since those early days.

I have been scanning as part of my job since 1993, at first capturing biometric data for UK passport and visa applications and since 2009 archiving London’s family photo collections, one by one.
